Serra International is a global organization, but our work is at the grassroots level. In collaboration with their local diocese, clubs organize and promote a huge array of events and programs such as prayer for vocations, dinners for clergy, vocation curriculum in Catholic schools, events for altar servers, and literally thousands of other programs.

We are passionate, creative, and energetic Catholics! Serra International is the only lay organization aggregated to a primary pontifical work. This extraordinary status was conferred in 1951. Our special relationship with the Holy Father was renewed again in 2017.

While we pray and work for vocations, we are also keenly aware of the value of friendship and mutual support. Our clubs are places of deep friendship, where men and women enjoy camaraderie while growing in faith. We’re mission-oriented, but also committed to personal growth in holiness.

Serra Club of Phoenix Events

Priest Appreciation Night
Each year, we gather with our bishop to express our deep gratitude for the dedicated priests of our diocese. This special evening is an opportunity for Serrans and the Catholic community to honor their commitment to Christ and His Church through fellowship, prayer, and celebration.

Evening of Gratitude & Jubilee
Together with our bishop, we celebrate the religious sisters and brothers who have devoted their lives to serving God and His people. This joyful evening is a tribute to their faithfulness, offering a chance to express appreciation and recognize jubilees within the religious community.

BBQ with the Seminarians
A favorite annual tradition, this casual gathering brings Serrans and seminarians together at one of the houses of formation for an evening of good food and fellowship. It’s a wonderful opportunity to encourage and support the future priests of our diocese in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Evening with Our Bishop
Bishop John Dolan invites Serrans and their guests to a Mass and dinner on the feast day of St. Junipero Serra to thank the Serra Clubs of the valley for all that they do to encourage and support vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Our Patron Saint - Junipero Serra

Not only because of his place in American history as the founder of a chain of missions in Mexico and California, but also because of his life of priestly zeal and heroic virtue, Fray Junípero Serra, OFM, was chosen as the patron of our apostolate. This gifted Franciscan friar had occupied the Duns Scotus chair of philosophy in Mallorca, Spain, until he felt the call to commit himself further to the service of Christ as a missionary in the New World. Departing from Cadiz, Spain, in 1748, he made the perilous crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a small ship, landing at Veracruz on the southern shore of the Gulf of Mexico. From there, he journeyed on foot to Mexico City, where tradition has it that he prayed at the church built over the famous site where the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to St. Juan Diego in 1531.
